One question that haunts every Panjabi thinking about future of Panjab is that why is youth so much into the drugs? What is government doing about it? While the answer to the former by many would be that unemployment, corruption and increasing debts on their parents, which will eventually pass on to them, have pushed the youth into this ditch; I have a different opinion about it. From what I see, people start consuming alcohol either because they see their parents doing so or their friend circle consuming alcohol for socializing. Some start with cigarettes and move on to alcohol while some go the other way around. From there on, when they see everyone around them using alcohol and cigarettes without any sense of regret, they become addicted to the evil too. Gradually, when effect of alcohol and cigarettes seems to decline, they try newer forms of drugs like smack, opium, heroine, etc. Once they start taking those drugs, they become even lazier and more escapist than they were before. They are not frustrated and depressed due to unemployment and corruption, instead, they are using those agendas to cover up their coward acts.
Moving on to the second question, what is government doing about it? According to me, drugs trap starts with two evils that our government has legalized just for revenue purposes - alcohol and cigarettes!! My question is that when we and the makers themselves know that alcohol and cigarettes are harmful to human health and more importantly to the society, then is it fair enough to legalize alcohol and cigarettes and bet on peoples' life for some stupid revenue that does not even support people? Is it fine to sit and watch people dying for govts' revenues? Instead of fighting against drugs, it's quite clear that governments are, in a direct way, helping the drug mafia. I 'd like to know your opinion on this, please have your say.
